Oregon Middle School Teams and Athletes compete during stormy conditions-Cascade and Broadway Middle Schools win titles

The PDXC Youth Running Series hosted the Oregon State Middle School XC Meet Sunday October 28th.

The day started with rain looming in the distance with the Girls Superchamps race that brought the top girls in the state together to compete in a well fought 3k race. Just before the start of the race American Record Holder and Olympian Evan Jager along with his training partner with the Oregon Project German Fernandez arrived to encourage the athletes as they lined up ready to compete. Jager and Fernandez placed themselves in the finsh chute at the end of the race congratulating the athletes as they finished. 

Girls SuperChamps:

 

The race developed right away with several Casccade runners charging down the grass field at the start. Midway through the race it broke open with three runners from Cascade Middle School out of Bend pushing the pace along the 3k course. The Team from Cascade took the top 3 spots in the race with all the girls breaking 11 minutes around the 3k course. The race was won by Sarah Reeves (10:46.56) closely followed by Olivia Brooks (10:48.06) and Gabbie Brocker (10:59.34) The team from Bend scored an impressive 21 points in the team race. 

Boy SuperChamps: 

The Boys SuperChamps lined up several of the top boys in the state for a showdown that was contested with a gutsy effort by Bowerman Athletic Club's Logan Phillips. Phillips battled Tom Sschoderbek from Cascade out of Bend for 2700 meters of the race. Phillips pulled away on the track for a 4 second win. (9:49.47 to 9:53.81)  Joshua Schumacher from the Bowerman Athletic Club broke the 10 minute barrier with a time of 9:58.22. The team race was won by Broadway Middle School from Seaside Oregon led by Hunter Thompson's 10:15.06 effort.

 

Girls Champs-

The largest race of the day was won by Oregon Episcopal School's (Portland) with a score of 25 points. Grace Christian was 2nd with 102 beating Fremont by 2 points in 3rd. 

Boys Champs- 

The boys team race was won by Fremont Middle School out of Roseburg Oregon scoring 53 points over Oregon Episcopal's 63 points as the runner up. Happy Valley was 3rd with 104 points.
