Middle School and Youth Cross Country is on the rise!

The PDXC Youth Running Series was established to promote the sport of cross country amongst the middle school and youth in Oregon and to give that opportunity for middle school athletes to experience the sport. We have been supported by the Willamette Valley Track and Field Grant fund to provide the experience free of charge!

When I was in the process of scheduling the PDXC Series meets there were more middle school opportunities that were available throughout the season aligned with high school invitationals. In the first year that Coach Rothenberger and I created the event there were not as many choices in the Fall.  We like being a conduit of information for those opportunities while at the same time putting on a couple of great races that our high school athletes volunteer their time to make it memorable.

The CYO Track program in the Spring and the success of that was the incubator of the idea for the PDXC Youth Running Series. The CYO Track and Field program has grown to nearly 2000 athletes competing in the spring from 25+ teams in the league. The positive-athlete focus philosophy on creating a great experience for these young runners regardless of their previous experience.

Looking forward to a few of the races coming up whether they are big or small...the opportunity to compete is the most important and we look forward to seeing every middle schooler at our meet at Fernhill in late October!
